Organic Cotton doesn’t use any insecticide or chemical fertilisers. 1/4 of the world’s insecticides is used just to grow cotton which then pollutes 20% of the world’s fresh water. Each year, 77m workers suffer from pesticide poisoning each year. That’s more than the whole population of France or the UK!
The impact on the environment is lessened and the farmers can even use part of their plantations to grow their own food.
The benefit for us who wear the garments is that the fiber is much stronger and softer as it hasn’t been treated with harsh chemicals. Also it ‘breathes’ better. That means the fabric absorbs moisture from the skin and stays dry longer so it’s more comfortable than synthetic fibres.
